PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION

Biographical Notes:

Joel B. Rosen is a partner with Montgomery McCracken and concentrates his practice in alternative dispute resolution, as well as white collar criminal defense, internal investigations and commercial litigation matters.

Serving as a United States magistrate judge from 1987 to 2006, Mr. Rosen has mediated thousands of cases, presided over numerous civil jury and bench trials and criminal misdemeanor trials.  He has negotiated multi-million dollar settlements and resolved all manner of complex cases and class actions in the areas of employment law, commercial law, environmental law, intellectual property, anti-trust, admiralty, civil rights, construction law, and torts.

Education:

Mr. Rosen received his J.D. with honors in 1973 from Rutgers University School of Law, Camden, New Jersey where he was managing editor of the Law Journal.  He received a B.A. degree from Colgate University in 1969

Professional Activities: 

Mr. Rosen is a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee of the United States District Court, District of New Jersey. He was an adjunct faculty member of Rutgers School of Law, Camden, where he has taught class actions and complex litigation.  He has also taught constitutional principles at Rutgers University, Camden and has lectured at numerous continuing legal education programs.  Mr. Rosen is a member of the Disciplinary Oversight Committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court and a former member of the Committee on Minority Concerns of that court.  He served as the chair of the U.S Magistrate Judge Selection Panel for the U.S. District Court, Camden vicinage.

Honors and Awards: 

Mr. Rosen served as president of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association.  He is the recipient of many distinguished service awards, including the Hon. Joseph M. Nardi, Jr. Distinguished Service Award, conferred by Rutgers School of Law - Camden, 2004 and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Champions for Social Justice and Equality Award, conferred by the Black Law Students Association of Rutgers School of Law - Camden, 1999.  While a judge, Mr. Rosen served on the United States Judicial Conference Committee on Federal-State Jurisdiction, as well as the Federal Judicial Center Committee on Magistrate Judge Education.  Mr. Rosen was the 2008 recipient of the Honorable John F. Gerry Award

Admitted to Practice: 

Mr. Rosen is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
