Biographical

Judge Harriet Derman retired as Chancery Judge and Probate Judge in 2009. Prior to that time, she served as Presiding Judge of the Civil Division. She is presently Chair of DiFrancesco Bateman’s Alterative Dispute Resolution Department. Judge Derman is a member of the United States District Court for New Jersey panel of mediators. She is a member of the Supreme Court Committee on Complementary Dispute Resolution. She has been appointed by both federal and state court judges to serve as a Special Master in complex litigation. Judge Derman has a L.L.M. in taxation from New York University and is a member of the prestigious American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  She has successfully mediated and /or arbitrated complex commercial, employment discrimination, insurance coverage and premium, probate, ERISA, partnership, condominium, shareholder, partnership, limited liability, personal injury, real property and malpractice disputes.  Judge Derman served as Chief Counsel to Governor Christine Todd Whitman and as her Chief of Staff.  She is presently a member of the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Law Journal.
